# Create a principal

POST https://api.withwrit.com/v1/principals
Content-Type: application/json

API key required. Creates one identity-directory entry. Names are
unique per tenant, case-insensitively: 1–64 characters; letters,
digits, spaces, hyphens, underscores, and periods; at least one
letter or digit. Every key issued with `principal_id` set to this id
is checked against the principal on every call — a disabled or
deleted principal gets DENY. Writes a PRINCIPAL_CREATE receipt.

This endpoint expects an object.

- `name` (string, required) — Directory name, e.g. Billing.
- `disabled` (boolean, optional) — Create it disabled. Default false.

The created principal.

## Errors

### 400 Bad Request Error

Bad request — the name breaks the naming rules.

### 401 Unauthorized Error

API key required — missing, malformed, or unknown key.

### 409 Conflict Error

A live principal with that name already exists (case-insensitive).
